Registration and Voting

Elections
All elections, including those for the school districts, are held at the Chester Township Hall. You can register to vote up to 15 days prior to an election by mail, at any Secretary of State branch office, at the county clerk’s office or designated state agency.  You may also register in person at the Township office- with proof of residency- starting 14 days before an election and continuing through 8 pm on Election day.

MI Voter Registration Form

For more information on elections, please check out the Secretary of State’s website at http://www.michigan.gov/sos and click on the “Elections in Michigan” button.

Upcoming elections are listed on the calendar of events in the Township newsletters and also on our website under “Special Notices”. If you have any questions, please contact the Township Clerk.

Effective November of 2007, voters will be required to provide a valid photo ID prior to being issued a ballot. Anyone who does not have an ID may sign an affidavit attesting that he or she is not in possession of the required identification.

Absentee Ballots
All registered voters can now vote absentee.   Applications are available by contacting the township office or by following this link:

Michigan Online Absent Voter Ballot Application (state.mi.us)

Print out the application and mail or deliver the completed form to the Township Office. Ballots are available approximately 30 days prior to an election. Please allow enough time for your application to be processed, your ballot mailed to you and returned to the office. The Clerk’s office is open on Saturdays prior to every election to allow for last minute absentee voting.  All registered voters may also request to be put on the Permanent Absentee Voter list by contacting the Township office or marking the appropriate box on the application.
